A few years back, I had the chance to play in the Junior Golf West Coast Championship in San Diego, California. There were hundreds of kids for all the age groups, and about 40 for mine. We were supposed to play 9 holes in the morning, 9 holes in the afternoon, and do the same the next day.
I think my handicap then was about 9-10 something, and there were kids there that could shot around 1 over or better and could drive 275, and I was sure as hell nervous. I qualified because I came in third in the Pacific Northwest Championship, and Oregon isn’t really known for golfers, so I was very intimidated by the other golfers.
However, I shot I think 8 over that day, and 11 over the next, and that was good enough for like 28th place, and I was ecstatic. I didn’t win, but I far exceeded my expectations.
